Sedona Sculpture

Sculpture along Highway 179 near Sedona

Attention art lovers, prepare to be captivated by Sedona. With over 300 artists and a good 40 galleries, Sedona has become a premier art attraction for both visitors and collectors. Sedona has a long history of involvement with the arts. Most notable was the formation of the world renowned Cowboy Artists of America in 1965 at the Oak Creek Tavern in Uptown Sedona. You can still sample western hospitality at the tavern now known as The Cowboy Club.

You will find galleries throughout Uptown Sedona, Tlaquepaque, and Western Sedona with a large concentration on “gallery row” on Hwy 79 below the Y. Beautiful art is not just concentrated in Sedona’s galleries. Outdoor art is scattered throughout the area. In Uptown Sedona we love the charming Indian maiden sculpture that is surrounded by flowers and a fountain in Sinagua Plaza.

Sedona Art Center

Sedona Arts Center

Hardly a week goes by without an “art happening “ in Sedona (see Tip). The second week in October brings the annual Sedona Arts Festival featuring fine art, entertainment and fun zone for kids. The Sedona Sculpture Walk also occurs in October and presents over 90 sculptors showing their work in the lovely outdoor setting of the Sedona Cultural Park. The Park has a free permanent sculpture display that is well worth seeing.

A “don’t miss” venue with year-round happenings is the Sedona Arts Center located in Uptown Sedona on Art Barn Road. The Center combines exhibit space with the Nassan Gobran School of the Arts. The School offers classes in painting, drawing, sculpture and ceramics plus Visiting Artists Workshops. August of 2003 found Julia Cameron presenting The Artist’s Way Workshop which has encouraged so many on their creative path. The Gallery presents works by over 120 artists and the Exhibition Gallery offers rotating exhibits throughout the year. The Center is open Monday through Sunday from 10am to 5pm with free admission.

Insider's Tip: For an art gallery directory stop by the Chamber of Commerce in Uptown Sedona; local newspapers are available throughout town with info on daily events.
